How it all began...

 

After a knee injury, followed by surgery, my doc recommended that yoga would be good for my rehab program. The nearest yoga studio was Oxygen Yoga and Fitness in Walnut Grove, BC. Well, I do the usual thing - which is to get a yoga mat from the discount bin at my locate discount store and off I go to my first class.

 

It turns out that this is hot yoga. One thing you notice about hot yoga right away is that you really sweat. Even if its only a flow or stretch class. Well after 15 minutes in to the class, I was doing Niagara Falls onto my mat. It was so slippery I spent more time trying to get a grip than actually doing yoga.

 

A beach towel during the next class didn't help either. Nor did a yoga towel. On both I found that I spent way more time spraying and fighting the bunching of the towels than actually practising yoga.

 

Thinking there had to be a better system, I tried every yoga mat available rubber, jute,etc. Nothing worked. But I loved doing yoga and my knee was getting stronger after every class. So, necessity once again became the mother of invention.

 

I spent every free moment thinking about how to solve this problem. I needed a system that could hold the towel to the mat securely without it bunching up and getting in the way of my yoga poses. There had to be a better material that had high static, wet or dry. Which means that the towel had to provide a better grip without the need to dampen it.

 

We initially started making the HOGA™ mat on our kitchen counter by hand! Since then, Yoga practitioners have been testing our prototypes for the the past 24 months, day in and day out under different yoga conditions, such as hot fusion, cross-fit, yoga/ Pilates, stretch, and relaxation classes. Through testing and modifications we have achieved the best system to create a stable, non-slip, anti-microbial platform for better results in your studio.
